Latest changes in management of crystalline silica substances - Cairns

New regulations regarding the management of crystalline silica substances (CSS) commenced 1 September 2024. Find out more by attending our information session at Pullman Cairns International on 16 October 2024.

This information session will bring you up to date with the stronger regulation of the processing of materials containing crystalline silica across all industries, particularly in relation to processing that is assessed as high risk.

These amendments include additional obligations on persons conducting a business or undertaking (PCBUs) who carry out work with a CSS.

In this FREE light lunch event, you will learn about:

  1. controlling CSS dust
  2. assessing the processing of CSS at your workplace
  3. control plans
  4. record keeping or risk assessments, controls and training
  5. reporting exceedances of the RCS exposure standard.

Noel Pinkerton

Noel is currently a Principal Advisor in Occupational Hygiene for Workplace Health and Safety Queensland in their Occupational Health, Hygiene and Asbestos unit. He has been with Workplace Health and Safety Queensland since 2011 and prior to his current role has worked as a boots on the ground Inspector in both their Construction and Industrial Inspectorate teams.

Professionally, Noel has completed a master's degree in occupational hygiene through RMIT and is a full member of the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygiene and is a Certified Occupational Hygienist. He has worked on the Construction dust code of practice for nearly two years now, including the implementation and creation of resources for industry to better understand the requirements.
