By

7 June 2024

The WorkCover Board is proud to announce the appointment of Michael Pennisi as the Chief Executive Officer of WorkCover Queensland, following an exhaustive executive search process. Michael will commence in the role on 18 June 2024.

Michael is an experienced chief executive with more than 30 years’ of experience in superannuation, insurance and investments. He has a strong track record of authentic, values-based and purpose led leadership, including as CEO of QSuper, QInsure and QInvest, and has led significant transformation programs in large financial services organisations.

Michael brings a strong commitment to serving the needs of customers and the community. His deep knowledge of insurance and his strong relationships with stakeholders will be invaluable as WorkCover builds on a proud history as one of Australia’s strongest performing workers’ compensation insurers.

“I am honoured to be appointed as the CEO of WorkCover Queensland,” said Mr. Pennisi. “WorkCover Queensland plays such a crucial role in supporting Queensland’s workers, employers and the broader community. It will be a privilege to lead the organisation and to work with the dedicated people at WorkCover Queensland to achieve our vision to be the best workers’ compensation insurer and make a positive difference in people’s lives.”

“I am looking forward to engaging with our people, customers, stakeholders and the community to continue to help Queenslanders recover and return to work after their workplace injury and to ensure the ongoing sustainability of our workers’ compensation scheme for all Queenslanders,” said Mr Pennisi.

The Board thanks David Heley, Deputy CEO, for his contribution as Acting CEO since the retirement of Bruce Watson earlier this year. David has done a tremendous job working with the Board, stakeholders and our people. This has been incredibly important work that means our new CEO will take over the reins of a strong organisation that is well placed to continue to  serve the Queensland community.
