Sparking electrical safety with The Wiggles during 2024
In Queensland, one in six serious electrical incidents involves children and each year, around 70 Queensland kids under 15 visit the emergency room due to electrical injuries—many of them under five.
To help deliver life-saving electrical safety messages throughout the year, we’ve partnered with The Wiggles. This year we continued to promote our messages at The Wiggles concerts, ran our Kindy competition, and continued to get the message out on YouTube with the ‘Electricity’ song being viewed over six million times to date!
We all play a part in promoting these vital electrical safety messages with our loved ones, friends and to the littlest ones in our life. Check out the fun new resource we developed for children this festive season which includes activities they can do while learning about important tips on staying safe around electricity.

Holiday season safety
As many businesses and workers wrap up for the year, we want to wish everyone a safe and happy festive break. Before you head off to spend time with your loved ones here’s some safety tips to share with your workers:
Storm safety – Storm season often coincides with the end-of-year period. Electrical workers and contractors must ensure all equipment is securely stored, and work sites are cleared of any potential hazards. Turn off powerpoints, unplug electrical equipment where possible, and report any fallen, low, or damaged powerlines immediately to the relevant electrical entity.
Maintaining a mentally healthy workplace – The end of year can be a busy and stressful time in the electrical industry. The Mentally healthy workplaces toolkit is a valuable resource to help you and your workers manage stress, prevent burnout, and maintain a positive mental health environment at work.
Stay hydrated – With rising temperatures in the summer months, working outdoors or in high-risk electrical environments increases the likelihood of heat stress. Ensure your workers are hydrated and have regular breaks. Pay attention to each worker’s tolerance to heat, as it can vary from person to person. Adequate shade, water, and access to rest areas are essential to prevent heat-related illnesses.
Safety first – During the holiday period, it’s easy to get caught up in the festive rush, but safety must always come first. Ensure that your workers are continuing to follow proper electrical safety procedures, even in the busy period. Make safety a priority to avoid accidents, especially when dealing with electrical systems or high-risk tasks.
