Rural plant Code of Practice 2024 now in effect

The Rural plant Code of Practice 2024 commenced on 23 September 2024. The purpose of the Code is to help reduce the risk of injuries and fatalities by providing guidance on working safely with rural plant.

The Code supports the agricultural industry to meet its work health and safety legislative obligations and is expected to have significant positive impacts on work health and safety outcomes on Queensland farms.

The new content includes key changes to reflect current best practice in the agricultural industry.

This includes direction on quad bikes and side-by-side vehicles and the use of technology such as drones. The Tractor code content has also been incorporated into the main code to improve usability.

The updated code replaces the Rural plant Code of Practice 2004 and the Safe design and operation of tractors Code of Practice 2005, with the new code reflecting the significant changes in the agricultural industry from a safety and technological perspective.

The development of the updated Code follows a comprehensive review supported by industry representatives and technical experts.
