Mobile crane Code of Practice 2024 commences on 23 September 2024
The Mobile crane Code of Practice 2024 (the Code) will commence as an approved code of practice on 23 September 2024.
The Code is a practical guide on how to manage health and safety risks associated with mobile cranes and is legally enforceable.
The Code will replace the Mobile crane Code of Practice 2006.
As mobile cranes can cause serious injuries and fatalities, the revised Code will improve safety by providing modernised guidance that considers the technological advancements in crane capability since the code first commenced.
Key updates to the Code include:
- new requirements to mandate that anemometers be provided on all slewing cranes with a maximum rated capacity of 45 tonne or more. There will be an approximate 12-month transition period before they’re required to account for supply and implementation
- implementing a recommendation made by the Queensland Coroner in relation to the safe on-road use of mobile cranes and to address ways to prevent mobile cranes from overturning.
The new Code reflects the latest in safety best practices tailored specifically for Queensland’s construction industry.
