Narellan Pools Pty Ltd has been convicted and fined $1.5 million after pleading guilty to industrial manslaughter in the District Court at Brisbane.
This charge arises from a tragic incident in 2021, where a 42-year-old worker was killed after being struck by a mobile crane.
Business owner pleads guilty to fatal workplace incident involving a scissor lift
The owner of a business recently plead guilty to a category 2 offence under section 32 of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011.
The incident involved a scissor lift elevating work platform (EWP) owned by the defendant and was supplied to a school between 2021 and 2022. The EWP had not been inspected or examined to ensure it was safe for operation before being delivered to the school.
The magistrate imposed a fine of $40,000 on the defendant. No conviction was recorded, and the defendant was ordered to pay legal costs and court fees totalling $1,601.40.
WorkCover fraud leads to five months’ imprisonment
The Workers’ Compensation Regulator has prosecuted a Queensland man for defrauding WorkCover of $78,000. The fraud has led to the man being jailed for five months and was ordered to repay the monies.
