Sex work – Working safely

Here we explain some simple examples duty holders can take to ensure that sex workers can operate safely, no matter what type of business the workplace is or where it is located.

Lots of things can be done so that sex workers can operate safely, no matter what type of business the workplace is or where it is located.

For example, doing visual checks of clients is one way to improve safety.

Training for sex workers should include how to do a visual check for STIs and other risks.

A sex work business must also provide and maintain sufficient lighting for a sex worker to do these checks.

Hygiene facilities and products should be provided for both sex workers and clients.

And looking after sexual health is also important. This includes access to peer education, PPE, vaccinations, and free and anonymous testing.
