Equipment certification and registration

This information is about where to go to get an electrical equipment certification, registration, fees and specific requirements for test reports.

The Queensland Electrical Safety Office (ESO) no longer issues certificates. Certificates can be obtained from accredited Recognised External Certification Scheme (RECS), or other Government Regulators who issue certificates. Current ESO issued certificates remain valid until their expiry date is reached.

Certification fees are set by the individual certifier.

For in-scope electrical equipment, you must register as a responsible supplier and also register any level three and level two equipment. You must also provide evidence of compliance to the relevant standard for all equipment.

Notice of intent to declare a Recognised External Certification Scheme

Pursuant to section 48J of the Electrical Safety Act 2002, the Queensland electrical safety regulator is intending to declare the following as Recognised External Certification Schemes:

• SGS Australia Pty Ltd - Australian Business Number: 44 000 964 278
• TUV Rheinland Australia Pty Ltd – Australian Business Number: 75 124 175 953
• SAI Global Certification Services Pty Ltd, operating as Intertek and Intertek SAI Global – Australian Business Number: 59 108 716 669
