Health and safety representative portal
Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) has published an online portal to make it easy for PCBUs to meet their obligation to notify the regulator of health and safety representatives (HSRs) and deputy HSRs.
The Work Health and Safety and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2024 introduced changes for PCBUs in relation to the election of HSRs and establishment of HSCs, worker representation and HSR training. This page will update as the changes commence.
As of 20 May 2024, changes to worker representation have commenced.
Further changes are anticipated to commence on 29 July 2024. Learn more about changes to the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 by the Work Health and Safety and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2024 .
HSRs and health and safety committees (HSC) provide the means to give workers a voice in health and safety matters at the workplace and involve workers through participation and consultation.
The primary role of an HSR is to represent the health and safety interests of a work group and to raise any issues with their employer. There can be as many HSRs and deputy HSRs as needed, after consultation, negotiation and agreement between workers and the employer.
The portal allows PCBUs to enter details of their elected HSRs/deputy HSRs into the portal, (name, contact details, workgroup they represent, and date elected). They will also be able to keep current records and details of their elected HSRs and deputy HSRs without a need to contact WHSQ.
Once all the details have been submitted, confirmation emails are sent to the PCBU and HSR/deputy HSR confirming their details and providing links to useful information. HSRs will also be given the option to join a HSR Safety Network Group. The HSR’s details are deleted at the end of their three-year term.
